Last updated: October 18, 2026 · Prices, eligibility rules and benefits in this guide were checked on the official Walmart+ Assist page at walmart.com on October 18, 2026. Walmart can change the program at any time, so confirm the current price at checkout before you sign up.
- Walmart+ Assist is a half-price Walmart+ membership for people on qualifying government assistance: $6.47 a month or $49 a year, versus the regular $98 annual fee.
- Who qualifies: Walmart lists SNAP, WIC, Medicaid “& more” government assistance programs.
- How it works: verify your eligibility online (handled by SheerID, no credit check and no impact on your government benefits), choose monthly or annual, then start a free 30-day trial.
- What you get: the same benefits as full-price Walmart+, including free delivery on store orders of $35+, free shipping with no minimum, 10¢/gal fuel savings and a choice of Peacock Premium or Paramount+ Essential.
- Keep in mind: Walmart’s FAQ refers to an annual re-verification, so you’ll need to confirm eligibility again each year.
If you get SNAP, WIC or Medicaid, you can cut the cost of Walmart+ in half. Walmart launched Walmart+ Assist in July 2023, and in October 2026 the program is still running at the same price: $6.47 per month or $49 per year. It’s the Walmart counterpart to Amazon’s Prime Access discount, and for many households it’s the cheaper of the two.
Below we explain exactly who qualifies, how verification works, what’s included and the fine print that trips people up. Everything comes from Walmart’s own pages, and where Walmart doesn’t publish an answer, we say so instead of guessing.
Walmart+ Assist price vs. regular Walmart+ (October 2026)
| Plan | Annual price | Monthly price | Who can join |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walmart+ (regular) | $98 per year | $12.95 per month* | Anyone |
| Walmart+ Assist | $49 per year | $6.47 per month | People on qualifying government assistance (SNAP, WIC, Medicaid and more) |
| Walmart+ Student | $49 per year | $6.47 per month | College students (separate verification) |
*Assist and Student prices and the $98 annual fee are from walmart.com/plus and walmart.com/plus/assist on October 18, 2026. Walmart’s main page doesn’t display the regular monthly rate; the $12.95 figure is according to Propel’s Walmart EBT guide (updated June 2025). Taxes may apply.
On the annual plan, Walmart+ Assist saves you $49 a year compared with the regular membership. Paying monthly costs $77.64 over 12 months ($6.47 × 12), so the annual plan is the better deal if you know you’ll keep the membership all year.
Who qualifies for Walmart+ Assist?
The official page says Walmart+ Assist is for customers who “qualify for government assistance programs,” and names SNAP, WIC and Medicaid, followed by “& more.” Walmart doesn’t publish the full list of accepted programs on that page. SheerID, the company Walmart uses for verification, says its government-assistance check covers SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, SSI, TANF, NSLP (school lunch) and LIHEAP, among others, but the programs Walmart accepts are the ones shown in the sign-up form, so check there.
A few points Walmart makes clear:
- No credit check. Verifying for Assist doesn’t involve a credit check.
- No impact on your benefits. Walmart states that verification has “no impact to your existing government benefits.”
- Existing members can switch. When Walmart launched the program, it said eligible current members who sign up get a prorated refund and the lower price starts right away.
How to sign up for Walmart+ Assist (step by step)
- Go to walmart.com/plus/assist and sign in to your Walmart account (or create one).
- Verify your eligibility. You’ll be asked about your assistance program. Verification is handled by SheerID. According to SheerID, SNAP households are usually confirmed through official data sources, while programs such as WIC or Medicaid may require you to upload a document, like a benefits letter or card. Have it ready on your phone.
- Choose monthly ($6.47) or annual ($49).
- Start your free 30-day trial. The Assist page offers a free 30-day trial. (Walmart’s main Walmart+ page currently advertises “30 days for $1” for regular sign-ups, so make sure you’re on the Assist page.) You’ll be billed the Assist price when the trial ends unless you cancel.
- Set up the extras. Some benefits need a separate step: the streaming service requires its own registration, and fuel savings are applied when you pay through the Walmart app at participating stations.
Re-verification: Walmart’s Assist FAQ includes the question “What happens if my annual re-verification fails?”, which tells you eligibility is checked again each year. Walmart doesn’t spell out the answer on the page. If you no longer qualify, expect to lose the discounted rate, and contact Walmart+ customer service about switching or canceling.
What’s included with Walmart+ Assist
Walmart says Assist members get the same Walmart+ benefits as full-price members. Here’s what the official page lists today:
| Benefit | What Walmart says (October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Free delivery from your store | Free delivery on orders of $35 or more (restrictions apply); reduced Express delivery fees |
| Free shipping | Free next-day and two-day shipping from Walmart.com, no order minimum (excludes most Marketplace items; freight and location surcharges may apply) |
| Streaming | Choose one ad-supported service every 90 days: Peacock Premium or Paramount+ Essential (registration required) |
| Fuel savings | 10¢ per gallon at Walmart, Murphy, Exxon, Mobil and CITGO stations (5¢ in Alabama), plus member prices at Sam’s Club fuel stations; participating stations only |
| Pharmacy delivery | Free prescription delivery, no order minimum (eligibility varies by medication) |
| Free returns from home | Pickup of eligible returns at your door, in limited areas |
| Other perks | Scan & Go in stores, early access to some deals, Walmart+ Travel cash back, 25 free photo prints a month, free flat tire repair, Pawp vet chat, Burger King savings |
The 5% cash back OnePay CashRewards card is promoted on the same page, but it requires a separate application and credit approval, so it isn’t automatic.
Can you use SNAP EBT with Walmart+ Assist?
The Walmart+ Assist page doesn’t say anything about paying with EBT, so here’s what we could confirm elsewhere. Walmart has accepted SNAP EBT for online grocery pickup and delivery orders since its 2020 expansion (announced on corporate.walmart.com), and according to Propel’s guide (updated June 2025), Walmart accepts EBT online in most states through Walmart.com and the app, for both pickup and delivery.
Two limits matter:
- EBT only covers SNAP-eligible food. Delivery fees, service fees and driver tips need another payment method, according to Propel. With Walmart+, the delivery fee is waived on orders of $35 or more, which is exactly where Assist saves SNAP shoppers money.
- The membership itself isn’t a food item. Walmart doesn’t list EBT as a way to pay for Walmart+, so plan to use a debit card, credit card or other accepted method for the $6.47 or $49 fee.
Is Walmart+ Assist worth it?
It usually pays off if you order groceries for delivery a few times a month. Propel lists Walmart’s standard delivery fee at $9.95 for non-members, so skipping that fee on just one $35+ order a month covers the $6.47 monthly price. Add fuel savings and the free streaming service and the annual $49 plan is hard to beat.
It’s less useful if you mostly shop in store and drive yourself. In that case, free pickup on orders over $35 (available without a membership, according to Propel) may be enough.
Mistakes to avoid
- Signing up on the regular page. Start at walmart.com/plus/assist, not the standard Walmart+ page, or you’ll be set up at full price.
- Forgetting the trial end date. The free trial converts to a paid plan automatically.
- Ordering under $35. Free delivery only applies to orders of $35 or more; smaller orders still carry fees.
- Ignoring re-verification. Keep your benefits documents handy for the yearly check.
- Not claiming the streaming perk. Peacock Premium or Paramount+ Essential has to be activated separately.
