Last updated: October 26, 2026 · On October 26, 2026 we checked Kroger’s Points Program FAQ and loyalty points program page on kroger.com, the Fuel Points terms on giftcards.kroger.com, Kroger’s Boost gas discounts page, and Kroger’s June 25, 2026 press release on the rewards program changes. Kroger can change or end any offer at any time, so confirm the live terms in the Kroger app before you shop or fill up.
- Kroger Fuel Points earn 10¢ off per gallon for every 100 points, up to $1 off per gallon on up to 35 gallons (up to $35 per fill-up), at Kroger Family Fuel Centers and participating partner stations.
- New in 2026: Kroger now calls them simply “Points,” and you can also use them on groceries: 100 points = $1 off, up to 1,000 points ($10) per day.
- How you earn: 1 point per $1 on most groceries, 2 points per $1 on most gift cards, 25 points per non-federally funded prescription. Paid Boost members earn 2x points on qualifying purchases.
- Expiration: points expire on the last day of the month after you earn them (points earned in March expire April 30).
- 4x Fuel Points: these are limited-time promotions (for example, 4x points on Fridays in summer 2026). Offers vary by area, so check your weekly ad and the Kroger app.
“Kroger fuel points” is one of the most searched grocery rewards topics because the savings show up right at the pump. The program had its biggest change in years on June 25, 2026: Kroger renamed Fuel Points to “Points” and added a second way to use them, dollars off groceries. The earn rates and the gas discount itself stayed the same.
Below we cover how many points you earn on groceries, gift cards and prescriptions, what 100 points are worth at the pump and at checkout, the per-gallon and per-day limits, when points expire, and how to get the most out of 4x promotions without wasting points.

How do you earn Kroger Fuel Points?
You earn points automatically when you shop with your Kroger Rewards card or enter your Alt ID (usually your phone number) at checkout, or when you order online for Pickup or Delivery while signed in. Kroger’s Points Program FAQ lists these earn rates:
- Groceries: 1 point for every $1 spent on most groceries, plus bonus promotions from time to time.
- Prescriptions: 25 points for non-federally funded prescriptions, 1 point per $1 of out-of-pocket cost for federally funded prescriptions, and 75 points for a 90-day script.
- Gift cards: 2 points for every $1 spent on most gift cards.
- Lottery: points on qualifying purchases only during eligible promotions. Age limits vary by state, and some states don’t offer these promotions.
There is no monthly limit on how many points you can earn. Kroger also notes that earning categories may vary by location.
Which gift cards don’t earn points?
Kroger says points are not earned on Kroger Family of Companies gift cards, prepaid reloadable debit cards (GO2bank, Green Dot, MoneyPak, Netspend), or Visa and Mastercard variable load cards. At Fred Meyer, Visa and Mastercard gift cards earn no points unless they are part of a specific promotion. Kroger’s gift card fuel points terms also list wireless phones and airtime cards and fuel retailer gift cards among the exclusions, and say Amazon gift cards have earned only 2x since March 20, 2024.
What are Kroger Fuel Points worth?
Every 100 points is worth either 10¢ off per gallon of gas or $1 off groceries. You choose, and you can split your balance between the two.
- At the pump: 100 points take 10¢ off per gallon, up to $1 off per gallon (1,000 points). The discount covers up to 35 gallons per transaction, so the most you can save on one fill-up is $35. Limits may vary by location.
- At checkout: 100 points take $1 off your next eligible in-store or online (Pickup or Delivery) order. The daily limit is 1,000 points ($10) per household.
Which is the better deal? It depends on how much gas you buy. 1,000 points are worth $10 off groceries, or $1 off per gallon at the pump. If you fill up 10 gallons or fewer, groceries give you the same $10 or more. If you can pump close to 35 gallons in one go, the same 1,000 points can save up to $35. The more gallons you pump in that one transaction, the more fuel wins.
How to redeem Fuel Points at the pump
Kroger’s FAQ gives two ways to redeem at a Kroger Family Fuel Center:
- At the keypad: enter your Alt ID (phone number) or insert your Rewards card, select the points you want to use, choose your fuel grade and start pumping.
- In the Kroger app: select Kroger Pay, then “Use at the pump,” choose your points and start pumping.
The discount applies automatically. At Kroger Family Fuel Centers you can pick which month’s points to use. At partner stations, your oldest points are used first.
Where can you use them?
Kroger says points work at any participating Kroger Family Store, Kroger Family Fuel Center or partner station nationwide, so they travel with you. Partner stations vary by region and, according to Kroger, may include Shell, bp, Amoco and Turkey Hill. The Kroger family of stores includes banners such as Ralphs, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, Smith’s, Fry’s, Harris Teeter and Mariano’s, plus others.
Kroger’s gift card terms add that the fuel redemption cannot be combined with other discounts, there is no cash back, and it is not available to dealers, wholesalers or fleet programs.
Using points on groceries instead
Since June 2026, you can turn points into dollars off your grocery bill. Kroger says to redeem them in your digital account on kroger.com or in the Kroger app before checkout. The reward then applies to your next eligible in-store or online Pickup or Delivery purchase. Each 100 points is $1 off, up to 1,000 points ($10) per day per household.
This is handy if you don’t drive much, or if you are about to lose points at the end of the month and won’t be near a fuel center.
When do Kroger Fuel Points expire?
Points expire on the last day of the month after they are earned. Kroger’s own example: points earned any time in March expire on April 30. So points from October 2026 are good through November 30, 2026.
You can check your balance on kroger.com, in the app or on your receipt, and Kroger says balances update in real time. Kroger’s points page also says active Kroger Rewards World Elite Mastercard cardholders get points that never expire; read the card’s terms for the details, which the page footnotes but does not spell out.
4x Fuel Points and Boost: earning faster
4x Fuel Points are limited-time promotions, not an everyday rate. In its June 25, 2026 announcement, for example, Kroger listed 4x points on Fridays through July 24, 4x points from July 1 to July 4, and a digital coupon for 4x points on Private Selection products through July 18, adding that offers vary by geography. Kroger also runs 4x promotions on gift cards from time to time. Because dates and exclusions change each time, check your weekly ad, the Kroger app and giftcards.kroger.com before you plan a big purchase around one.
Boost, Kroger’s paid membership, gives 2x points on qualifying purchases in store, for Pickup and for Delivery. Kroger’s Boost page says some promotions earn more, such as 3x on 2x promotions. Boost points exclude pharmacy prescriptions, tobacco, Kroger Family of Stores gift cards, money services, lottery tickets, postage stamps, The Little Clinic, delivery tips and Boost membership fees. Boost also includes free grocery delivery on orders of $35 or more and a free 30-day trial (one per household).
Tips to get the most from Kroger Fuel Points
- Save 1,000 points for a big fill-up. Redeeming the full $1/gallon on a large tank stretches your points furthest, up to $35 on 35 gallons.
- Watch the end of the month. If points are about to expire and you can’t get gas, use them for up to $10 off groceries instead.
- Buy gift cards you’d use anyway. At 2 points per $1 (more during 4x events), gift cards for restaurants or stores you already shop at add up fast. Skip excluded cards.
- Use the 3¢ member discount. Kroger says Rewards members get 3¢ off per gallon at participating locations even without redeeming points.
- Never buy or sell points. Kroger’s terms prohibit it and allow Kroger to remove accounts for violations.
