Last updated: November 8, 2026 · On November 8, 2026 we checked HP’s official HP Education Program page and its terms, the HP Membership Discounts page, the HP Frontline Heroes Store, the HP Employee Purchase Program page, the HP Rewards terms, and the HP.com free shipping and returns pages. HP can change or end these programs at any time, so confirm the current terms on hp.com before you buy.
- Yes, HP has a student discount: the HP Education Program (HP Education Store) advertises savings of up to 40% on select HP tech bought on hp.com.
- Who qualifies: students, their parents or guardians, and teachers who live in the United States, according to HP’s program terms.
- How to get it: sign up on HP’s education page. HP says it requires an email address to register, and the page says “No Student ID required.” HP can still check your eligibility at any time.
- Key limit: 2 PCs, 2 tablets, 10 accessories (including Care Packs), 2 printers and 12 supplies per calendar year. Ink and toner have not been eligible for program discounts since March 1, 2023.
- No public promo code: the discount comes from member pricing after you register, not from a code.
If you are shopping for a laptop for school, you probably want to know whether HP gives students a real discount, how much it is, and what it takes to get it. HP does run a student program, but the “up to 40%” headline applies only to select products, and the program has yearly purchase limits.
This page covers what HP officially says about the HP Education Program: who qualifies, how to sign up, the fine print, HP’s other discount programs (military, first responders, healthcare workers and employees), and other ways to save on hp.com without a code.

How the HP student discount works
The HP Education Program is a member pricing program on hp.com. Once you register, you see program pricing on qualifying products. HP describes these as select consumer and business PCs, select accessories and select printers. HP’s Membership Discounts page sums it up as “everyday discounts up to 40%.”
“Up to 40%” is a ceiling, not a flat rate. HP does not publish a fixed percentage for each product, so compare the program price with the regular hp.com price on the exact model you want. The discount does not apply to tax, state fees, shipping or delivery charges, or free-gift promotions.
HP’s terms also say program offers “may not be combined with other products offers, discounts, coupons or program benefits unless explicitly stated,” and that Education Program purchases cannot be combined with the HP Loyalty/Referral program.
Who qualifies for the HP student discount?
- Students: HP’s terms say the program is open to “students.” They do not separate college students from K-12 students.
- Parents and guardians: parents and/or guardians of students are included, which helps families buying for a younger student.
- Teachers: teachers are named in the terms. HP’s marketing copy also mentions “faculty,” but the terms themselves list only students, parents/guardians and teachers.
- US residents only: you must live in the United States to join the US program.
Other school staff are not named in the terms. If you are not a student, parent, guardian or teacher, read the terms carefully before you register, because HP can check eligibility and remove members at any time.
How to get the HP student discount, step by step
- Go to the official page. Open the HP Education Program page on hp.com (hp.com/us-en/shop/cv/hp-education).
- Click “Sign up and save.” This takes you to HP’s registration page.
- Register with your email address. HP says it requires an email address to register. It does not name a .edu requirement, and the page says no student ID is required.
- Shop while signed in. Program pricing shows on qualifying products while you are logged in to your program account.
- Check the price before you buy. Compare it with the regular hp.com price and any current sale, since program offers generally do not stack with other discounts.
- Stay within the yearly limits. Keep track of what you have bought this calendar year (see below).
Purchase limits and fine print
- Yearly caps: “2 PCs, 2 Tablets, 10 Accessories (including CarePacks), 2 Printers and 12 Supplies per calendar year.” HP says going over these limits “can result in expulsion from the Program at HP’s sole discretion.”
- No ink or toner discount: “Effective March 1, 2023, ink and toner will no longer be eligible for program discounts.”
- hp.com only: the program does not apply at other retailers or in physical stores.
- Not on everything: personalized products, HP Rewards redemptions and gift card redemptions are excluded, along with tax, fees and shipping charges.
- Returns: returned products bought at a discount are refunded at the price you paid, not at the standard list price.
- HP can end it: participation “can be suspended, revoked or terminated at any time by HP for any reason or for no reason.”

Other real ways to save at HP (no code needed)
- HP Rewards: free to join for US consumers aged 18 or older with an HP Store account. Points are based on the purchase price after discounts (a $299.99 pre-tax total earns 300 points), and HP gives 100 points for registering. Points are valid for 180 days once available, and only select products earn them. The Education Program page says members can earn HP Rewards on select laptops, desktops and printers.
- Free shipping: HP says eligible products ship free on qualifying orders with Standard (5-7 business days) shipping. Excluded products and faster shipping methods cost extra.
- 30-day returns: HP’s return policy is 30 days from delivery for items in as-new condition with original packaging, and HP currently pays return shipping to its warehouse (Alaska may differ).
- Financing: on November 8, 2026, the Education Program page advertised special financing for 12 months on purchases of $750 or more with the HP Credit Account, subject to credit approval. Read the credit terms before you apply.
- Weekly deals and sales: HP runs rotating sales on hp.com. Compare a sale price with your program price and pick the lower one, since offers usually cannot be combined.
Tips before you buy
- Sign up before you start comparing prices, because program pricing only shows when you are logged in.
- Do not plan on discounted ink. Ink and toner are excluded from program discounts, so budget for them at regular or sale prices.
- Count your purchases. Two PCs per calendar year is a hard cap, so families buying for several students should plan ahead.
- Keep your order confirmation and check the return window on delivery day in case the laptop is not right for your classes.
