How the AT&T military discount works
AT&T groups its military, veteran, teacher and retired responder discounts under one program, AT&T Appreciation Savings. For military customers, the discount is a percentage off each eligible unlimited phone line, and the percentage rises with the plan tier: 10% on Value 2.0, 15% on Extra 2.0 and 20% on Premium 2.0.
The per-line prices AT&T shows on its military page ($35, $29 and $22 per line) assume 4 lines and already include AutoPay, paperless billing and the wireless discount. Your price with fewer lines, or without AutoPay, will be higher. AT&T’s page notes that discounts start within three bills, so your first bill may not show the savings yet.
AT&T’s support article also lists older AT&T unlimited plans as eligible, in addition to Premium 2.0, Extra 2.0 and Value 2.0. The military page itself only names the three current plans, so check with AT&T if you are on an older plan.
Who qualifies for the AT&T military discount?
- Active-duty military: Named on every AT&T page we checked.
- Reservists: AT&T’s support article says full- or part-time military reserve employees qualify.
- Veterans: The military page says “veterans.” The support article words it as “retired veterans” and accepts a DD214 or a veteran-designated driver’s license as proof.
- Spouses of active-duty members: Eligible, including surviving spouses of active-duty members, per the support article. Spouses need a paystub less than 90 days old plus proof of marriage, such as a marriage certificate.
- Family members: Covered when the qualified military person is the primary owner of the AT&T Wireless account.
- Gold Star families: None of the AT&T pages we checked mention Gold Star families, so ask AT&T directly before you count on it.
How to get the AT&T military discount, step by step
- Pick an eligible plan. Choose AT&T Premium 2.0 (20%), Extra 2.0 (15%) or Value 2.0 (10%). The plan you pick sets the size of your discount.
- Open the verification form. Go to att.com/verification/military. You enter your service status, branch, name, email, date of birth, discharge date (if any), and whether you already have AT&T Wireless, then click “Check eligibility.”
- Use the name on your account. AT&T says the name you qualify with should match the name on your account. New customers should use the same name they will use to open the account.
- Upload documents if asked. You may be approved immediately. If not, AT&T asks for proof within 14 days of wireless service activation: a pay stub less than 90 days old, a DD214, an NGB 22/22A for the Air or Army National Guard, or a veteran-designated driver’s license.
- Prefer help in person or by phone? You can sign up at an AT&T store or call 855-830-7190.
- Watch your bills. AT&T says it can take up to three bill periods for the savings to show up.
Rules and fine print
- The military member must be the primary account holder.
- The discount covers up to 10 eligible phone lines on the account.
- Only eligible unlimited postpaid plans qualify. AT&T’s military page does not say the discount applies to AT&T Prepaid.

- The advertised per-line prices include AutoPay and paperless billing discounts.
- AT&T says it may temporarily slow data speeds when the network is busy.
- AT&T states it is not associated with or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Defense.

Other real ways to save at AT&T (no code needed)

- Switching offer: AT&T advertises up to $1,150 when you switch, made up of up to $800 in reward cards (redemption required) and $350 in bill credits. Requirements include an eligible plan and porting in a number.
- New line offer: The military page shows $200 off per line with an eligible plan and a new phone line, paid as a $5.56/mo. bill credit over 36 months.
- AT&T Fiber bundle: There is no military-specific Fiber discount on the pages we checked. New customers can save up to $420 a year by bundling, based on $35/mo. in combined discounts on 5-GIG internet with eligible wireless service, AutoPay and paperless billing. Availability is limited by area.
Tips before you buy
- Run the numbers on more than one plan. Premium 2.0 has the biggest percentage off, but Value 2.0 may still cost less per month.
- Make sure the qualifying service member, veteran or spouse is the primary account holder before you verify.
- Have your documents ready (pay stub, DD214, NGB 22/22A or veteran driver’s license) so you can upload them within the 14-day window.
- Do not panic if the discount is missing from your first bill. AT&T allows up to three bill periods.
- Read the requirements for switching and new-line offers carefully. Most are paid as monthly bill credits that stop if you cancel early.
