Amazon Prime Student (2026): Price, Free Trial and Eligibility

Last updated: October 24, 2026 · On October 24, 2026 we checked the Amazon Prime plans page on amazon.com (which lists Prime for Young Adults at $7.49 per month after the trial, regular Prime at $14.99 per month or $139 per year and Prime Access at $6.99 per month), Amazon’s official newsroom pages on Prime for Young Adults (the program that replaced the Prime Student name), Amazon’s page on discounted Prime memberships, and the Amazon Customer Service help pages for joining, graduation and continuing student status. Amazon can change or end any offer at any time, so confirm the live terms on amazon.com before you sign up.

Quick answer
  • Yes. Amazon Prime Student still exists, now under the name Prime for Young Adults: eligible new members get a 6-month trial for $0, then pay $7.49 a month or $69 a year.
  • That is 50% of regular Prime, which Amazon lists at $14.99 a month or $139 a year.
  • You qualify if you are 18 to 24 (age verified with a driver’s license, passport or ID card), or if you are a student at a two- or four-year college (verified with a .edu email or proof of enrollment).
  • Members get the full Prime package (fast free delivery, Prime Video, Amazon Music, Prime Reading, Prime Day access) plus young-adult extras such as 5% cash back on some categories for a limited time.
  • Amazon’s newsroom also lists free Grubhub+ and $0.10 per gallon off at participating bp, Amoco and ampm stations.

If you searched for “Amazon Prime Student,” you may have noticed the sign-up page now says “Prime for Young Adults.” Amazon renamed and widened the program in June 2025, so it now covers 18-to-24-year-olds whether or not they are in school, while still welcoming college students. This guide is for students, recent grads and parents who want to know what it costs today and who can get it.

This guide covers exactly what the plan costs, how long the free trial lasts, who is eligible and how verification works, what happens when you turn 25 or graduate, which perks are included, and what to do if you do not qualify.

How to sign up for Amazon Prime Student (step by step)

  1. Use your own Amazon account. The membership has to belong to the student or young adult, not to a parent’s account.
  2. Open the Prime for Young Adults page on amazon.com (searching “Prime Student” on Amazon still takes you there) and choose to start the trial.
  3. Pick your route. If you are 18 to 24, verify your age with a driver’s license, passport or identity card. If you are a college student, verify with your .edu email address.
  4. No .edu email? Amazon says students can use an alternative proof of enrollment, such as a current student ID image, a transcript or a tuition bill.
  5. Add a payment method. The trial is $0, but it converts to the paid plan ($7.49 a month by default) unless you cancel or switch to the $69 annual plan.
  6. Already a regular Prime member? Amazon has a help page for switching from Amazon Prime to Prime for Young Adults, so you do not need to cancel first.

Amazon describes the six-month trial as being for eligible new members. If you have had a trial before, you may be offered the discounted paid price straight away instead.

Who qualifies and how long you can keep it

There are two ways in, and they end in different ways.

Route How you verify When the discount ends
Age (18 to 24) Driver’s license, passport or identity card When you age out of the 18 to 24 range; check your membership page as you near 25
College student .edu email, or a student ID image, transcript or tuition bill When you graduate or reach the program’s time limit; Amazon may ask you to verify continuing student status

What happens after graduation?

Amazon keeps a dedicated “Prime for Young Adults Graduation” help page and a “Verify Continuing Student Status” page, which tells you two things: student memberships are time-limited, and Amazon checks that you are still enrolled. 2026 reporting on the program says student-verified members can keep the discount for up to four years or until their studies end, whichever comes first, after which the plan moves to regular Prime. Amazon’s newsroom does not print that four-year figure itself, so read the graduation help page for your exact end date. If you are still 24 or younger when you graduate, the age route may let you keep the discounted price.

What about students over 24?

Amazon’s announcement says higher-education students at two- and four-year colleges can sign up with a .edu email, and it does not set an age cap for that route. So graduate students and older undergrads can apply as students. Amazon decides which proof it accepts.

What Prime Student includes

You get the same core benefits as full-price Prime, according to Amazon:

Young-adult exclusives

Partner perks can change faster than the core plan does, so check what your sign-up page lists before you count on any of them.

Is Amazon Prime Student free for 6 months?

Yes. Amazon says eligible new Prime for Young Adults members get a six-month trial for $0. After that it renews at $7.49 a month unless you cancel or switch to the annual plan.
