Does Michaels Offer a Military Discount? (2026): 15% Off, Who Qualifies & How to Verify

Last updated: November 1, 2026 · On November 1, 2026 we checked the Military Discount page, the Special Discounts page, the Coupon Policy and Price Guarantee page, the Value Info (savings FAQ) page, the Teacher Discount page, the Michaels Rewards page and the Michaels Rewards terms on michaels.com. Michaels can change discounts and exclusions at any time, so confirm the live terms at checkout or with a team member before you shop.

Quick answer
  • Yes: Michaels offers a 15% off entire purchase, including sale items military discount. It is a standing, year-round discount, not a seasonal promotion.
  • Who qualifies: Michaels’ coupon policy lists Active Duty, Reservist/National Guard, Veteran and Registered Dependent. The military page says the offer is for “you and your immediate family.”
  • How to get it: verify your military status through your free Michaels Rewards account, then sign in or give your Rewards phone number at checkout. In store, you can also show a valid military ID.
  • Limits: one military discount per product and one per day. Clearance, custom framing, gift cards, Lego, Pokémon cards and other items are excluded.
  • Veterans Day 2026: as of November 1, 2026, we did not find any extra Veterans Day offer on michaels.com. The everyday 15% is the military deal Michaels publishes.

Michaels is one of the few big craft chains with a published, everyday military discount. You don’t need a promo code or a special event: once you’re verified, the 15% applies to your whole basket, sale items included, whenever you shop. The fine print matters, though. Several popular categories are excluded, and Michaels’ pages are not perfectly consistent about online use.

Below we cover exactly what michaels.com says about who qualifies, how verification works online and in store, what’s excluded, how the discount works with coupons, what we found (and didn’t find) for Veterans Day 2026, and the other official ways to save at Michaels.

Does Michaels have a military discount?

Yes. Michaels’ Military Discount page offers “15% OFF entire purchase including sale items” with the message “Thank you for your service!” The Coupon Policy and Price Guarantee page describes it the same way: “Military members can enjoy an additional 15% Off Entire Purchase Including Sale Items.”

That makes it more generous than many store coupons. Michaels’ everyday coupon types for regular-price items (such as “Any One Regular Price Item”) exclude sale items, while the military discount covers them. It still does not apply to clearance.

Who qualifies for the Michaels military discount?

The “Who Qualifies” section of Michaels’ coupon policy lists four groups:

  • Active Duty service members
  • Reservists and National Guard members
  • Veterans
  • Registered Dependents

The Military Discount page frames it as an offer to “you and your immediate family.” Michaels does not define “registered dependent” or “immediate family” in detail, and it does not list retirees separately. If you are a spouse or dependent, the safest route is to verify through your own Michaels Rewards account or ask a team member what documents your store accepts.

How to get the Michaels military discount (step by step)

Michaels gives two paths: verify once through Michaels Rewards, or show your ID at the register.

Online (through Michaels Rewards)

  1. Log in or create a Michaels Rewards account. Michaels’ Rewards terms say “There is no fee for membership.”
  2. Follow the verification prompt in your account dashboard. Michaels says it uses “a trusted third party” to verify eligibility for online enrollment. It does not name the provider for military on its pages (it names SheerID only for teachers).
  3. Have your document ready. Verification requires a government-issued document showing your full name, branch of service and current military status.
  4. Wait for approval. Michaels says most verifications happen instantly; if more documentation is needed, it may take up to 20 minutes.
  5. Shop. Sign in to your account online, or give your Michaels Rewards phone number at the register, and the discount is applied.

In store

  • Show your military ID at checkout. If you have a Michaels Rewards account, Michaels says your status will be synced to it within 24 hours.
  • No Rewards account? The coupon policy says you can still show a valid military ID to get the discount in store at the time of purchase.
  • Before verification is complete, a valid military ID allows the discount for “three (3) initial purchases,” according to the coupon policy.

Online vs. in store: a note on the fine print

Michaels’ Special Discounts page and step 3 of the Military Discount page say you can use the discount online and in store by signing in or giving your Rewards phone number. The asterisk fine print on the same military page, however, reads “In store only. Must show valid military ID.” The most consistent reading is that the ID-at-the-register route is in-store only, while a verified Rewards account carries the discount online too. If the 15% doesn’t appear in your online cart after verifying, contact Michaels customer care before you place the order.

What’s excluded from the Michaels military discount?

The Military Discount page lists a long set of exclusions. The main ones:

  • Clearance items
  • MichaelsPro Packs and Artist’s Loft Super Value Canvas Packs
  • Custom framing and Michaels Photo Gifts
  • Classes, birthday parties and private events
  • Gift cards
  • Craft technology machines and sewing machines
  • Cut-to-order fabric, rolled posters, books and magazines, beverages and candy
  • Balloons and related items, plus Elf on the Shelf storybook sets
  • Lego, Pokémon Trading Cards and Ty Beanie Babies
  • Items sold by third-party sellers on michaels.com or MakerPlace

Several other brands are also excluded. Michaels adds that “Exclusions subject to change” and to see a team member for details. Each discount is limited to stock on hand and is void where prohibited.

Can you combine the Michaels military discount with coupons?

Partly. Here is what Michaels’ official pages say:

  • No stacking group discounts: “Teacher, Military, Senior, Premium Plan and other group discounts cannot be combined.” A veteran who is also a teacher gets one 15%, not 30%.
  • Coupons can be used in the same purchase: Michaels’ savings FAQ (Value Info page) says its Military, Senior and Teacher discounts can be used in a purchase “along with other coupon types,” subject to the same limits.
  • One per product: Michaels’ coupon rules are “Limit one coupon per product” and “one coupon of each type per day.” In practice, a coupon and the military discount generally go on different items in the same cart, not on top of each other on the same item.
  • Price match: once an item is price-matched, Michaels says it cannot stack other coupons on the reduced price.

Michaels Veterans Day 2026: is there an extra discount?

As of November 1, 2026, we did not find any separate Veterans Day 2026 offer on michaels.com, and we found no Michaels press release announcing one. We are not going to guess. What Michaels does publish is the everyday 15% military discount, which already applies on Veterans Day (November 11, 2026) like any other day, within the one-per-day limit.

If Michaels posts a special Veterans Day promotion, it should appear on its coupons page, in the Michaels app or in Rewards emails. We will update this page if an official offer appears.

Other real ways to save at Michaels

  • Michaels Rewards (free): under the terms effective March 1, 2026, members earn 3% back in Red tier, 6% in Gold (spend $300 to under $1,000 in 12 months) and 9% in Platinum ($1,000 or more). Rewards come as $5 vouchers, valid for 32 days, with up to 5 vouchers per transaction.
  • Michaels Card: cardholders earn 9% in Rewards on purchases made with the card, whatever their tier. It is issued by Comenity Capital Bank and is subject to credit approval.
  • Teacher discount: educators get the same 15% off entire purchase including sale items, verified through Michaels Rewards with SheerID. Accepted proof includes an educator ID with a valid date or a pay stub from the last 60 days. It can’t be combined with the military discount.
  • Senior discount: shoppers 55 or older get 10% off entire purchase including sale items, online and in store.
  • Coupons: Michaels offers coupons online, in the app, by direct mail, email and SMS (its policy notes coupons are not available in stores). Types include “Any One Regular Price Item” and “Entire Purchase Including Sale Items.” Michaels stopped accepting competitor coupons on March 27, 2020.
  • Price guarantee: in store, Michaels matches lower prices advertised for identical items on Michaels.com. Online, if you find a current lower price within 7 days of your Michaels.com purchase, call customer care at 1-800-642-4235.
  • Bulk Buys: Michaels says you can save up to 50%, but no extra coupons or discounts apply to those purchases.

Tips before you shop

  • Verify through Rewards once. After that, the discount follows your account and your phone number, so you don’t need to carry ID every trip.
  • Plan your biggest basket for one trip. The limit is one military discount per day, and it covers your entire purchase.
  • Check exclusions before you buy a Cricut, Lego or gift card. These are excluded, so the 15% won’t help there.
  • Pick the best group discount. If you qualify as military, teacher and senior, use the 15% military or teacher discount; they can’t be combined.
  • Ignore “Michaels military promo code” sites. Michaels applies the discount through your verified account or ID, not a public code.
