Chipotle Rewards (2026): How Points Work and What You Get

Last updated: October 2026 · Chipotle relaunched its rewards program on April 13, 2026, and can change point prices at any time.
- Points: You earn 10 points for every $1 you spend. College students in Chipotle U earn 12 points per $1.
- What you get: Points start at 85 for a side tortilla. A free entrée costs 1,625 points, and 50% off an entrée costs 815 points.
- Sign-up perk: New members get free chips and guac with a purchase of $5 or more. It expires 7 days after it lands in your account.
- Birthday: You pick one birthday reward: chips, guac, queso or a fountain drink.
- Expiration: Points stay alive if you make at least one qualifying purchase a year. Rewards you’ve claimed expire after 60 days.
Chipotle Rewards is free to join, and it is the main way to get free food at Chipotle. In April 2026 the program got a big refresh called “Rewards on Repeat.” It brought lower point prices, a longer points life and a pick-your-own birthday treat. This guide explains how points work, what they buy, and the fine print we checked on Chipotle’s official pages.

How Chipotle Rewards points work
Every $1 you spend earns 10 points. That means a $12 order earns about 120 points. Points can take 24 to 48 hours to show up in your account.
Not every dollar counts. Chipotle’s terms say you do not earn points on taxes, tips, donations, alcohol, gift card purchases, or fees like delivery, bag and service fees. If you pay part of an order with a reward or Burrito Bucks, you only earn points on the part you paid with cash, a card, a mobile wallet or a Chipotle gift card.
There is also a daily cap. Only three qualifying purchases per account count each day.
How to earn points
- Download the Chipotle app or sign up on chipotle.com. Add your birthday when you register.
- When ordering online or in the app, log in first. Guest checkouts do not earn points.
- In a restaurant, show your Rewards account in the app when you pay.
- Check your balance in a day or two. Points can take up to 48 hours to post.
- Forgot to scan? Chipotle may add missing points if you have a valid receipt from the last 30 days. This is up to Chipotle and has limits.
What Chipotle Rewards points get you (Rewards Exchange)
You trade points for food in the Rewards Exchange, inside the Chipotle app. Here are the point prices listed on Chipotle’s rewards page in October 2026:
| Reward | Points | About how much you spend to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Side tortilla | 85 | $8.50 |
| Chips | 350 | $35 |
| Fountain drink | 400 | $40 |
| Guac | 500 | $50 |
| Double protein | 700 | $70 |
| 50% off an entrée | 815 | $81.50 |
| Entrée | 1,625 | $162.50 |
| Entrée and chips | 1,775 | $177.50 |
The “spend” column is our own math at 10 points per $1. It does not count bonus points from Extras or promos, which can get you there faster.
Once you claim a reward, use it. The terms say rewards expire if not used within 60 days after they are added to your account. Bonus rewards can expire even sooner. You can usually use only one reward per order, and rewards generally can’t be combined with coupons or promo codes.

Sign-up, birthday and monthly perks
Free chips and guac for new members
Since April 13, 2026, new members get one free order of chips and guacamole. You need a purchase of $5.00 or more, not counting tax and tip. The offer expires 7 days after it is added to your account. Chipotle’s release says it can’t be used on catering, Burritos by the Box or third-party delivery orders.
Birthday reward
Members choose one birthday reward: chips, guac, queso or a fountain drink. The rewards page says you pick it during your birthday month. Chipotle’s April 2026 announcement describes a 30-day window to redeem it. Make sure your birthday is saved in your account. (Love birthday freebies? See our Starbucks birthday reward guide.)
Monthly drops and Freepotle
Chipotle says members get free bonus reward “drops” every month. A $5 minimum purchase is needed to redeem them. Chipotle also brought back Freepotle, its recurring free food promotion. These offers change, so check the app’s rewards section and your email.
Extras: challenges for bonus points
Extras are challenges in the app that unlock bonus points and badges. Chipotle said in April 2026 that Extras would become “always-on.” This summer’s “Summer of Extras” ran through June, July and August 2026, and is now over.
What changed in 2026
- Points last longer: Points now stay active with one qualifying purchase a year. Before, the window was six months.
- Lower point prices: Chipotle says the refreshed Rewards Exchange has lower thresholds and new options, such as 50% off an entrée and bundled meals.
- Choose your birthday treat: You now pick chips, guac, queso or a drink.
- Free chips and guac at sign-up: A new welcome offer for new members.
- New app section: All rewards content now lives in one part of the app, with a points tracker.
Rules: confirmed vs. not confirmed
Confirmed on official Chipotle pages: 10 points per $1; three counted purchases per day; points expire after 365 days with no qualifying purchase; rewards expire 60 days after being added; members must be 13 or older; the U.S. program covers the 50 states and Washington, D.C. Canada (except Quebec) has its own terms.
Not confirmed: We found no member tiers or status levels on Chipotle’s official pages. We also could not confirm whether third-party delivery app orders earn points; the terms say points come from Chipotle’s own app, website and restaurants. Chipotle can change point prices at any time without notice, so the numbers above can move.
One mismatch to know: The Chipotle U student page still says points expire after 180 days of no activity. The main rules (updated April 13, 2026) say 365 days. If you are a Chipotle U member, earning at least once every six months is the safe bet.

Students, military and special offers
Students: Chipotle U is a separate program for college students. Chipotle checks enrollment through ID.me. Verified students get 1,000 points right away and earn 12 points per $1 instead of 10.
Military: Chipotle’s rewards FAQ says it does not offer an always-on military discount. It sometimes runs promotions for military members. For year-round options, see our Home Depot military discount guide.
Halloween 2026 (Boorito): On October 31, 2026, after 3 p.m. local time, Rewards members who visit a participating U.S. restaurant in costume can get one entrée for $6. You must scan your Rewards account at checkout. It is in-restaurant only. On November 1, 2026, Chipotle says delivery fees are waived on app and website orders of $10 or more (not in every state).
Troubleshooting
- Points missing: Wait 48 hours. If they still aren’t there, ask Chipotle for help with your receipt. Requests must be within 30 days of the purchase.
- Reward won’t apply: Check that it hasn’t passed its 60-day limit and that you aren’t stacking it with a coupon. Some rewards need a $5 minimum purchase.
- Points vanished: Points expire after a year with no qualifying purchase. A single purchase a year keeps them active.
- Ordered as a guest: Guest orders don’t earn points, so log in before you pay next time.
