Does Home Depot Offer a Military Discount? (2026): 10% Off, $400 Cap, How to Enroll

Last updated: October 23, 2026 · On October 23, 2026 we checked The Home Depot’s official Military Discount Benefit page, its Credit Center, Daily Deals page and Pro Xtra page, plus The Home Depot Foundation’s 2026 Celebration of Service announcement. The Home Depot can change or end any offer at any time, so confirm the live terms on homedepot.com or in the Home Depot app before you shop.

Quick answer
  • Yes. Home Depot gives active duty, reservists, veterans, retirees and their spouses 10% off eligible purchases, up to $400 in discounts per calendar year.
  • You verify once through ID.me, then the discount works online (automatically at checkout when signed in) and in stores (scan your Virtual ID in the app or give your account phone number).
  • Gold Star spouses qualify. Non-spousal dependents, civilian military employees and dishonorably discharged veterans do not.
  • Big exclusions: lumber, wire and other commodity building materials, appliances, special orders, tool rental, labor, gift cards, delivery fees, clearance and past purchases.
  • No separate Veterans Day 2026 discount was posted when we checked. The Home Depot Foundation’s veteran housing campaign runs September 8 to November 20, 2026.

Home improvement projects get expensive fast, so it makes sense that “home depot military discount” is one of the most searched military savings questions every fall, especially as Veterans Day gets closer. The short version: The Home Depot has a year-round military program, but it comes with an annual cap and a long list of excluded categories.

This page covers exactly what the official program says on October 23, 2026: who qualifies, how ID.me verification works, how to use it online and in store, what it does not cover, and other verified ways to save at The Home Depot.

Who qualifies for the Home Depot military discount?

According to The Home Depot’s Military Discount Benefit page, the program covers active and reserve members, veterans and retirees of these branches:

  • Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Space Force
  • National Guard
  • NOAA Commissioned Corps and the USPHS Commissioned Corps
  • Current spouses of eligible service members
  • Gold Star spouses

Not eligible: non-spousal dependents (for example, adult children), dishonorably discharged veterans, auxiliary members, civilian military employees and anyone who is not a military member.

How much is the discount, and is there a limit?

The discount is 10% off eligible items, and The Home Depot says it applies to select in-stock items. There is a $400 maximum annual discount, and that cap resets each calendar year.

In practical terms, $400 in savings at 10% means the discount stops after roughly $4,000 of eligible purchases in a calendar year. If you are planning a big project in late 2026, keep in mind that the cap resets on January 1, so timing a large eligible purchase can matter.

How to sign up: ID.me verification step by step

The Home Depot states it partners with ID.me to confirm military status. The official page does not mention SheerID. Verification is done once and typically takes a few minutes.

  1. Go to the Military Discount Benefit page on homedepot.com, or open the Home Depot app.
  2. Sign in to your Home Depot account, or create one.
  3. Select Get Started and complete the ID.me verification.
  4. Once approved, your account shows an enrolled status and the discount is tied to that account.

Spouses: each spouse needs their own personal Home Depot account and must enroll separately. The spouse verifies with their first and last name, account email and the service member’s required information.

Using the discount online vs. in store

Online at HomeDepot.com

Sign in to your enrolled account. The 10% is applied automatically to eligible items in your cart at checkout. There is no promo code to type in.

In a Home Depot store

At checkout, scan the Virtual ID in the Home Depot app, or enter the phone number registered to your enrolled account. Having the app open before you reach the register saves time.

APO/FPO addresses

The Home Depot says homedepot.com does not support APO/FPO delivery. Military customers can order eligible items for APO/FPO delivery through AAFES or NEX instead.

What the military discount does not cover

This is where most shoppers get surprised. The official page says the discount “can’t be applied to select items, services and fees.” Listed exclusions include:

  • Commodity products such as lumber, wire and building materials
  • Value-priced merchandise
  • Appliances (most of them)
  • Special order items
  • Tool rental fees and labor (installation services)
  • Gift cards
  • Freight and delivery charges
  • Clearance items and prior purchases

Appliance tip: because most appliances are excluded, The Home Depot points eligible military members to the Military Exchanges (AAFES and NEX), where Home Depot appliances are offered at special military pricing and tax-free. If you are shopping for a washer, fridge or range, compare that route before buying at regular price.

Is there a Home Depot Veterans Day 2026 deal?

As of October 23, 2026, we did not find a separate Veterans Day 2026 customer discount on homedepot.com or in The Home Depot’s corporate newsroom. The military discount page itself does not mention a Veterans Day offer. Because the 10% program runs all year, enrolled members can use it on Veterans Day like any other day, subject to the same cap and exclusions.

What The Home Depot did announce is The Home Depot Foundation’s 2026 Celebration of Service, published September 8, 2026. It runs from September 8 through November 20, 2026, with Team Depot volunteers working on veteran housing projects in all 50 states plus Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Foundation says it has invested more than $650 million in veteran causes since 2011 and has committed $750 million by 2030. That is a charitable program, not a shopper discount.

We will update this page if The Home Depot posts a Veterans Day sale or special offer.

Other real ways to save at Home Depot (no code needed)

  • Home Depot Consumer Credit Card (issued by Citi): the Credit Center says you can save up to $100 on qualifying purchases when you open a new card, and offers 6-month everyday financing on purchases of $299 or more. The page lists these offers as valid through 1/27/2027. Read the card terms carefully; deferred-interest financing can be costly if you do not pay in full in time. You can check prequalification, which the page says does not affect your credit score.
  • Special Buy of the Day and Daily Deals: homedepot.com/daily-deals runs one-day, online-only sales while supplies last. Deals reset daily (3 AM ET). Recent examples on the page included discounts of up to 45% off select power tool kits. Discounts vary every day.
  • Pro Special Buy of the Week: a weekly deal aimed at Pros, linked from the Daily Deals page.
  • Pro Xtra: The Home Depot’s loyalty program “built for Pros.” Corporate materials describe Perks you unlock and redeem in the app (such as Tool Rental Perks or Pro Xtra Dollars) and a Pro Xtra Virtual ID for purchase tracking. The official pages we checked did not list exact reward values, so check the Pro Xtra page before you count on a specific benefit.
  • Price match: The Home Depot publishes a Price Match Guarantee page covering in-store and online products. We could not load the full rules on October 23, 2026, so check the page or ask at the store for current conditions before you request a match.
  • Fast free delivery: the Daily Deals page advertises “Fast Free Delivery,” subject to availability and excluding major appliances. We could not verify a specific order minimum on an official page, so check your cart at checkout. Delivery fees are not covered by the military discount.

Tips to get the most from the military discount

  • Enroll before your shopping trip. ID.me verification is quick, but it is easier at home than at the register.
  • Split big projects by category. Lumber and building materials are excluded, but tools, hardware, paint supplies and decor may be eligible. Check your cart to see which lines got the 10%.
  • Watch the $400 cap. If you have a large eligible purchase planned and are near the cap, waiting until the January reset may save you more.
  • Spouses: use your own account. Each spouse enrolls separately, so a household does not have to share one login.
  • Appliances: compare AAFES and NEX. Military Exchange pricing is the official alternative to the excluded 10%.
  • Compare with Lowe’s. Lowe’s also runs a military discount program with its own rules, so it can be worth comparing for large purchases.
