- Free 8th groom (Grooming Perk): free Petco Perks members earn a punch per qualifying groom; after 7, Petco issues points equal to the average value of those grooms.

Vital Care, Petco’s membership program, has been renamed. In its own words, “Vital Care is now Petco Perks.” The free tier is called Petco Perks and the paid tier is Petco Perks Premier. Some Petco pages still say “Vital Care” or “Pals Rewards,” but these are the same program. The grooming savings below are tied to that program.

How to save on Petco grooming, step by step
- Join Petco Perks for free. Sign up on petco.com, in the Petco app or at checkout. The Grooming Perk is only for members.
- Activate the Grooming Perk before your first visit. Petco says to turn it on under “Offers For You” in your account, in the app, or with an associate at checkout. Grooms done before you activate it may not count.
- Book through the app or petco.com. Petco’s app page lists “Book a grooming appointment,” and the grooming page has “Book Appointment” and “Manage Appointment” buttons. Use the phone number or email tied to your Perks account so each groom is credited.
- Check this month’s add-ons. The Apple Blossom upgrade ($29, through 10/31/26) is optional. The base groom already includes shampoo, blow-dry, a 15-minute brushout, nail trim, ear cleaning and gland expression, so an add-on isn’t needed to get a clean dog.
- Consider Premier only if you groom a dog often. The 20% grooming discount applies only to the enrolled dog, and the plan costs $24.99/month with an annual commitment. Work out your yearly grooming spend before you sign up.
- Use your points. 1,000 points equal $1 in Petco Cash, and you can redeem once you reach 5,000 points ($5). Points from purchases expire 365 days after they’re issued.
Is there a Petco grooming coupon code?
Petco’s official dog grooming, cat grooming and Petco Perks pages show no public promo code for grooming. Instead, Petco’s grooming savings come from member perks (the free 8th groom and Premier’s 20% off) and posted offers like the $19.99 puppy bath.
Many coupon sites list grooming codes or “first groom” discounts with set percentages. None of those appear on Petco’s official pages as of today, so treat them as expired or unverified. Petco’s own puppy bath offer is the only first-visit-style deal shown, and it’s limited to puppies 6 months or younger.
Petco’s site-wide banners, such as “20% off sitewide” (exclusions apply) and “10% off $50+” for buy online, pick up in store, are retail promotions. Petco doesn’t say they apply to grooming services, so check the fine print before counting on them.
What Petco grooming includes and costs
Dog grooming services
- Bath: deep-cleansing shampoo, ear cleaning, blow-dry, a 15-minute brushout, nail trim, scented spritz and gland expression.
- Bath & Haircut: everything in the bath, plus a breed- or style-based cut.
- Puppy Bath: a shorter bath for young puppies (see the $19.99 offer above).
- Add-on packages: examples include Essentials (+$24, with teeth brushing and paw balm), oatmeal shampoo (+$28), flea shampoo (+$25), detangling (+$30) and a seasonal package (+$29).
- A la carte services: on Petco’s page, a nail trim is listed at $12, nail trim with buffing at $18, and teeth brushing at $12.
Petco lists estimated starting prices by dog size. For example, a bath for an extra-small dog (up to 10 lbs) starts at $24. Petco says pricing “varies by store/location and breed type” and that the true price is shown only after you finish booking online. Plan on 2 to 4 hours per appointment.
Cat grooming
Some Petco salons have cat grooming specialists. The page lists estimates from $70 for a short-haired cat bath, plus Spa and Deshed add-ons. Not every salon offers cat grooming, so check with the store locator or call your salon. Note that Premier’s 20% grooming discount covers dogs only.
Self-serve dog wash
Petco’s grooming page lists a $20 self-serve dog wash with supplies included. If your dog mainly needs a bath, washing it yourself costs less than a full-service groom. Not every store has one.
Other ways to save
- Petco Perks points: 1% back in points on purchases and 3% back on Petco-owned brands. Points aren’t earned on fees, tips, taxes, gift cards or shipping.
- Petco Pay card: Petco says cardholders “earn 2X Pals Rewards points at Petco.” Read the card terms before you apply.
- Premier monthly Petco Cash: the dog and cat plans include $15 in Petco Cash each month, which expires after 45 days.
- Grooming supplies: brushing and nail care at home between visits can stretch the time between full grooms.
Who it’s for and what to know
Best fit: dogs that get groomed every 4 to 8 weeks. At that pace, the free 8th groom comes within a year. Owners of a single dog with heavy grooming needs may also come out ahead with Premier’s 20% off.
Things to watch:
- Grooming Perk credits reset if you don’t complete 7 grooms within 365 days.
- Returned grooms, or grooms exchanged for something cheaper, reduce your credits.
- Premier benefits can’t be combined with other Petco promotions and don’t apply to items already discounted.
- Premier requires an annual commitment and is priced per pet. Grooming and vet benefits apply only to the enrolled pet.
- Puppies need proof of vaccinations, and Petco may not finish a service if a pet is too stressed.

FAQ
Is Vital Care still a thing at Petco?
Petco renamed it. Its membership page says “Vital Care is now Petco Perks.” The free tier is Petco Perks and the paid tier is Petco Perks Premier. Some pages still use the old names.
How does the free 8th groom work?
Activate the Grooming Perk in your Petco Perks account. Each qualifying groom earns a punch. After 7, Petco issues points equal to the average value of those grooms, which you can use on your next groom. You must finish all 7 grooms within 365 days.
How much does Petco Perks Premier save on grooming?
The dog plan gives 20% off any full-service dog bath or groom for the enrolled dog. It costs $24.99/month or $239.99/year with an annual commitment, and it can’t be combined with other Petco promotions.
Does Petco have a first-time grooming discount?
Petco’s official pages don’t show a general first-groom discount or code. Two offers come close: the $19.99 puppy bath for puppies 6 months or younger, and the introductory $50 on new members’ first Grooming Perk punch card, which is “subject to change.”
Can I book Petco grooming in the app?
Yes. Petco’s app page lists booking a grooming appointment, and the app is also one place to activate the Grooming Perk. You can book and manage appointments on petco.com too.
